We are still experiencing low water levels for this time of year. The river is almost a full meter lower than this time last year. On the positive side of things, the river has remained at a reasonable temperature thanks to some very chilly nights we have been having.
From the recorded weather information we cannot see that there has been much in the way of precipitation. Our access here on the river is limited to the information that we can find online. One of the guides who lives in...

No doubt about it the water level is abnormally low for this time of year. We have seen it much lower but a dry July month has brought the river down to 1.6 meters. More and more fishing is being done by wading now than we usually do.
But, despite the tough conditions, Eagle is still producing for our guests! There are plenty of cool deep holes with fish and they are taking fly. Not the numbers that our guests are used to (Eagle has them spoiled, haha!) but they are still averaging 2-3 a...

Well, there this is turning out to be a much dryer summer than we expected. Already we are think that the greeting for future guests will be "Welcome to Eagle Brook".
Hopefully it won't come to that but there is no signs of rain in the long range forecast and only intermittent showers to get the black flies stirred up.
Fishing is becoming more difficult with the number of hook-up decreasing for most of our anglers.

There is still nothing positive to report when it comes to water level in the river. Navigation around the river has become very difficult and we have no choice but to land the boats at Governors.
I was also disappointed to see that the rain forecast for tomorrow has now been changed to a 60% chance of showers.
The wind over the past couple of days has made casting a fly line quite a chore for anglers.
A few of our guests have decided to get their waders on and hit the water looking for success.
Our rookie guide took one guest up into the rock pile yesterday with some success. Yet another guest decided to wade on the sandbar.
He ended up landing a beautiful 12 - 14 lb salmon, which fought hard and did an awesome tail walk. Eventually the guest managed to wade back to where the boat was and his guide assisted him in landing the fish.

There was some precipitation for a few hours in the Goose Bay area over the past 36 hours, but we have yet to see any increase in water levels. It may be that the trees and bogs soaked up most of it. There is rain in the forecast for Wednesday which will be welcomed.
There was a slight lull in fishing action yesterday as not one but two seals found their way over the gorge. As you can imagine, the salmon didn't stay long in the pools.
As the evening progressed the action again picked up. One of our guests landed a Beautiful 36" Hen which according to the Salmometer is 18.2 pounds (8.26 kg).

The water level continues to fall and it will be soon be impossible for our boats to land at the beach in front of the camp.
Some relief is in the forecast. Precipitation and cooler temperatures are in store. Although there doesn't appear to be a tremendous amount of rain coming, it will keep the water temperature down, which in turn will keep the fish more active.
Our current guests are reporting numbers of hookups which may have already surpassed last years total catch. All anglers are enjoying their success and anxiously await their next session.
I was fortunate enough yesterday to get a chance to wet a fly. My efforts were rewarded with a nice grilse which gave me quite a show and leaping in the air at least 5 times before I was finally able to land it. Some Fun!!!

Yesterday we bid farewell to our third group of guests for the season and welcomed our fourth group. This group consists mostly of seasoned veterans with only one angler who has never had the pleasure of hooking a salmon.
This Salmon Angling rookie was quickly enjoying the action. He hooked at least two fish during his first session on the river. This is true for all of our guests as they all reported hooking fish before dinner.
I heard one report of a pair that had a double header that...

Water level continues to fall and not much precipitation recorded means that the river will continue to fall for a while yet. There is some relief in sight for the weekend.
Angling is still great, with guides reporting that there are small schools of fish in every little hole you pass over.
One of older gentleman who is our guests landed a beautiful salmon yesterday at Pratts. He had landed many grilse before but, this was his first salmon landed for the trip.
I can guarantee that he enjoyed the experience by his comments afterwards:
"...It was better than sex.......and it lasted longer."

Once again our guests are very happy with yesterdays fishing results. We had a drop in temperature and a very brisk wind all of yesterday, and we had to have the fireplace lit all day in the main lodge. The colder temperature allowed the river to cool down to about 64 F (17.5 C).
The level is still dropping back and the only precipitation that I saw recorded was 5 hours of light rain showers in the Goose Bay area.

Water Levels are still falling. We will know sometime tomorrow if the rain in Happy Valley - Goose Bay Area yesterday will have any effect. It will take 2 days for it to reach us here and make any noticeable difference.
Fishing yesterday was a little slower than our guests have been experiencing up to this point in the week, but they are not complaining. You have to understand that when I tell you that it is a little slower it doesn't mean that they are not catching fish, simply that they...
