Hello folks!! It has been a long cold winter and a long spring with lots of pack ice on the coast. It led us to worry that fish would be late, but we have not been hearing any reports to indicate that and our own fish sightings have been pleasantly surprising. We came to camp on June 3rd to start renovations and have been seeing the odd fish jumping while working around outside at the lodge. We have been too busy to do much testing the waters. However on Father's Day, also the season...

Our last guests for the 2013 season departed Eagle River this morning. No doubt about it the last two weeks of low water presented a challenge but it was not able to dampen the fantastic season we have had here at Pratt Falls Salmon Lodge.
Our last group was made up of a mix of seasoned pros and 4 anglers who have not fished atlantic salmon before. We are very happy to report that despite what we consider tough conditions, all of our anglers hooked into fish. Sea-run trout were also coming...

The water level started to rise a little yesterday. We are not sure that this trend will continue or not. This will be determined by the amount of rain that fell on the plateau. With the forecast showing little more in the way of precipitation.
Our anglers have had some success raising, but fish don't seem to want to fly very well. This may be because of the rising water.
Although fishing is more challenging due to the abnormally low river conditions most of our new anglers have had...

Well it appears that the rain that we having been looking for all season has arrived. There has been precipitation recorded in Goose Bay for the past 20 hours. I have no way to determine how much rain has fallen, I only know that it is recorded as light rain. Unfortunately it is too late to make much difference to this year's guests. The level of the water is staying constant with no noticeable change in the river.

The water level did increase very slightly; but only for a very brief period. The 4cm gain disappeared again within hours. Fortunately there is more precipitation in the forecast.
Our departing anglers enjoyed a fantastic evening. Everyone in the group spent the evening fishing together. I saw 6 of our 9 anglers playing fish and a nice 4kg salmon released on pole rock. Most of the fish that evening were taken on dry flies, and of course our veteran was having a blast.

We finally have had some rain recorded over the Eagle River Plateau. When I looked at the weather conditions for last evening and today I noticed that there was some precipitation for 12 of 24 hours. Unfortunately I have no way of determining how much only that there were periods of light rain showers and other periods with rain and a thunderstorm with rain.
With the dry conditions I am sure that the ground and trees will take a good portion of it, but hopefully there will be a slight...

Well; we still are experiencing low water levels. The forecast is calling again for rain but only about 10 cm. This will not give us any significant increase in water levels, but we hope that it will keep us from losing any more and maintaining what we have now.
Our one well seasoned veteran angler in the group is hooking numerous fish every day by using his knowledge of the river and where the fish will lay.
Although the water levels are making the fishing more challenging than normal our...

There is some relief in site in the Goose Bay forecast over the next few days. It is only showers so we are hoping that somewhere within those showers will be a few good downpours in the Mealy Mountains and the network of string bogs and brooks that feed the mighty Eagle. The river is still dropping but it has slowed to the rate of less than an inch a day.
Many of our anglers had success yesterday. One experienced angler fished hard yesterday and hooked 9 fish, and one of our beginners...

Our water continues to drop about an inch a day but thanks to cold nights the water temps are still in the mid 60's which is very good. Our anglers are catching some salmon and grilse but the action is slow due to the water level. Our experienced anglers are still having multiple hook ups a day while our beginners are finding it more challenging.
Yesterday, Dwight took 6 of our guests to North River in Sandwich Bay for a day of Sea Trout fishing. And what a time they had! The trout were...

Although we have low water conditions our anglers are being successful. In the first evening half of our anglers have hooked fish.
One of our young anglers who had his first salmon fishing experience just two years ago has remembered his training and was successful in landing 2 grilse during his first evening of fishing. His Father and Brother were also successful and landed fish.
This afternoon I had the pleasure to witness one of our new group of guests who had never fly fished before...
