L to R: Eldon lands this beaut! Jacob gets a grilse for the bbq, and works on his boat handling. (larger version)
I'll start with the worst news to report on the last few days here at PFSL…the heat! We just endured two scorchers with yesterday's air temps hitting 35c here at the lodge! Today has cooled beautifully with a high of 17c expected, and the forecast is a mix of cool to moderate temps and some decent little shots of rain. No significant heat forecasted now until the 3rd. How did the river fare in this short lived heat wave? Quite well! The water volume is still quite healthy now at 2m (185m3/s of flow) yesterday afternoon then water temp was 18c (64f) and this morning as a result of yesterday's heat it has bumped up to nearly 19c (66f). Water level is on a steady decline but not low yet by any means. The 'bathtub' has just become fishable again.

The action has been a bit slow. Seems like we are still depending on fresh sculls of fish coming in and they aren't holding up for long. The last group done well overall holding a 3+ CPUE average, and we're elated to share that one guest, Eldon, set a personal best large fish record for himself! We had our lodge fly tier, Jamie Pike here as well. His craftsmanship on our many Salmon patterns and Eagle River favourites is second to no one, and he knows how to throw a line really well, too!

Last night guests reported a lot of fish moving into Pratts. We went up there this morning and it was pretty dead at the beach, and the boats also had no success. But, we moved down river and seen 4 and rose one in the span of about an hour on the Sandbar. Hedley was out with new guests from BC who are new to fly fishing. They seen a fish at Al's Pool but never hooked up! No luck for them this morning but they are just getting started! The river condition is overall good so we expect we'll get into a few soon.

I have to touch on my boy, Jacob. Proud dad moments the last couple days. He was up in William's Run on Sunday with Dave and got a nice grilse. We were out this morning and it proved to be just a casting lesson and working on his boat handling skills. His patience is still a little thin, but this Dad thinks he is doing well at 9yo. I think he will be around here a bit more in the years to come!
