Dreaming Of Dry Flies
Posted 03 August 2013, 2:29 am NDT
The water level did increase very slightly; but only for a very brief period. The 4cm gain disappeared again within hours. Fortunately there is more precipitation in the forecast.
Our departing anglers enjoyed a fantastic evening. Everyone in the group spent the evening fishing together. I saw 6 of our 9 anglers playing fish and a nice 4kg salmon released on pole rock. Most of the fish that evening were taken on dry flies, and of course our veteran was having a blast.
Our youngest angler landed her first ever salmon, as did another proud member of our group. I know that they had played fish but they were elated to actually have landed their fish.
I even got the opportunity to do a little guiding, and had the chance to spend some time with the rookie who was eager to perfect his dry fly skills after landing his first fish. I could immediately tell that he had been hooked on dry fly fishing. The added attention that he gave to watching the fly and mending his line to the get perfect drift.
I wasn't able to help him hook another fish, but it wasn't because of a lack of effort on his part. He floated his fly across that little pool so many times, that he must have been dry fly dreaming on his return flight overseas.
