Action from this week (larger version)
Some very welcome rain on Tuesday and Wednesday is showing it's effects today here on the Eagle. This ol' river was getting into a weakened state of high temps and low water, but it seems that is over for the time being. Over the last 18hrs the river level has gained about 25cm of water and while yesterday's temps peaked at close to 23 during the hottest part of day, they dropped back to 19 by 11am this morning. The mid day sun warmed it back up a degree, but with temps expected to dip to 10c tonight, it should really help put those warm water temps behind us. We do have one more hot day forecasted for tomorrow, then the mercury is predicted fo
Drop to 11c again tmrw night! Good stuff. The long range is cool temps and rain for sunday into monday.

Lets talk about the action. This has been a great week overall. A couple of the morning sessions when the water was a little cooler and tides rising delivered some spectacular action, with this morning be our best of the year so far. Still a nice mix of large fish around, too. We had a few 15-16lbers this week. Plenty of beautiful grilse, of course. The fishing wasn't always easy. Very clear that the river on times was full of fish, just hard to entice them to take a fly in some of the warmer, bright, and sunny sessions. That's fishing. There was never a doubt that everyone was fishing in very fishy water though!

We're excited for what's to come as long as the forecast holds up. This dose of water should keep things sensible for awhile. Stay tuned to the Eagle River Report to find out. A little side note: you'll notice that our social media channels are not full of photo ops with fish as much as normal this week. There is a reason for this, and it is not because there are no fish! It's the water. Lots of fish caught here this week, but guides and guests are choosing to not take the photo op as often as we normally would in cooler water. It's our way of giving these magnificent fish a break when they need it most.

Pictured here, Brother and Sister, Steve and Judy had a great trip! carrying on a close to 50 year family history of fishing the Eagle. They paid tribute to their dear dad, Clayton, who loved this river and would make an annual trek to fish it back in the 70's and 80's. Jim landed this 15-16lb beauty during the fresh water and cooler temps and grabbed a quick photo before a successful live release. Tyler and Todd tag a dandy maxi grilse, and just check out that rainbow, lodge, and cast shot all in one…perfect!
