It's changeover day here at PFSL. It's a bustling day with a lot of friendly handshakes. We see off folks, many who have become friends and fishing family, who have enjoyed their stay, and we welcome in another group eager to hit the water and see what the Eagle has in store for them. Hats off to our float plane operators who this week went above and beyond to accommodate our flight timing due to low river and tide conditions. Everything went off without a hitch and the jet boats really showing their worth on days like today.
The outgoing group did well. Everybody hooked up, and CPUE for the week was around 1.8. Not stellar, but considering the bright days and low river, our guides and guests done well. One thing is for sure guests have been fishing over fish. Plenty of them! Lots of obvious fresh sculls of fish coming in and several reports of many fish moving into pools, jumping, and porpoising. They just have been stubborn to take a fly. All fun and games in the pursuit of this king of sportfish!
The river started dropping again 2 days ago and needs a fresh drop of rain. The temperatures were holding quite well, thanks only to evening easterly breezes and clear nights with the mercury dropping to low teens celcius. The heat of the day is doing its damage though. The river temp started at 18.5 (66F) this morning and closed the day 21C (70F). Tonight will hopefully cool it again.
The outlook: there is rain in the forecast for the Eagle Plateau. Tuesday night and Wednesday are supposed to drop about 30mm. Please, please let it happen. We have a cool night tonight with low of 12c, but two more days to come packing some heat. Then, starting Tuesday it's supposed to cool down and rain and stay cool for a couple of days. If this forecast holds true it could really set the stage for healthy conditions for a while to come.
New group hit the water this afternoon in some pretty hot temps and bright sun. I wasn't expecting great results to be honest. 11 rods on the water, the managed to hook up with 10 fish and rose, nicked, and seen plenty more! Not s bad start. Hopefully more to come! Leaving this report with a few lovely snaps from this week. Robert and Jim with a couple nice thick grilse, and Jeremy and Dave released this beauty a couple days ago. Check out our instagram @prattfallsodge. It's where we post a ton of content contributed by guests and guides alike. We have a lot of fun here at the lodge, and it's always a pleasure to share that with online viewers, and hopefully you visit with us and experience it for yourself some day!
Don't forget to do your rain dance. Tight lines!
