Early fishing has been great!

Labrador is still in drought conditions, and wildfires in Churchill Falls have jumped the river and threaten the town and the 5428 Megawatt Power Plant. So for once, we are hoping the heavens shed some rain on us for more than just the atlantic salmon's sake, and we wish for the safety for those battling the wildfires.
We had guests at the lodge over the weekend, as mentioned in our last report. The 4 of them, rookies, never fly fished before. They fished Saturday evening, Sunday, and Monday morning. Nearly two solid days. The results: 24 fish hooked, all large but 1 grilse! They have made adrenaline pumping memories to last a lifetime. We always encourage folks with some flexibility to consider these early dates, as we know it can be stupendous. It certainly was this year. Our next group which was originally the pre-booked start of our season arrive on Thursday the 27th, what do we expect? It's always hard to say. The river is low with good holding water, and Wednesday is supposed to be a hot, sunny day, but then the mercury drops and there is rain in the forecast on Thursday, Friday, and over the weekend all over the Eagle watershed. That is exciting and we hope it holds true. If it does hold true and the low waters get a little shot of cool air and rain it could lead to some fantastic late June and early July results.
Our guides have been getting a little time on the river as well. They work hard and play hard. Pictured here is Mr. Angell with a beauty bright large salmon. If anybody reading this report has the flexibility to hop on board with our group coming in on Thursday, drop Dwight a line! You won't be disappointed!
