Hello 'Eagle River Report' readers, and welcome to our 2024 season! We moved into the lodge on June 19th and took it out of winter hibernation. Everything is up and running smoothly on that end of things.
Let's talk about conditions. For fishing right now, the conditions are great. Water level is on the low side, but good. This is still June. June 22nd today and the river is at 2m, or 175m3/s of flow. About 5-7x less than a 'normal' year. The weather has cooled and the forecast is cool, but it is also dry. Labrador has been in a drought all year. Very little snow, very little rain. Wild fires in Western Lab, and near Rigolet in June. The river is still fairly cool, around 60F. We need rain.
Today we hosted two father & son duos that had their trip to Lobstick cancelled due to wild fire. They have had an incredible day! First, a great morning fishing at a few of Dwight's favorite trouting places on the way to the lodge yielded great results and a delicious lunch in the lodge tomorrow. Then, a couple of hours guided by Theodore and Sonny and they were into some nice bright large fish. All beginner fly fishers, and a pretty awesome start to our season!
