Bob G, what can I say. I met Bob at the Minipi Fly Shop nearly 10 years ago. I was browsing the great selection of equipment while overhearing this guy having a chat with the Minipi proprietor. Pratt Falls Lodge was in the market for a new guide, and this fellow sounded like a prime candidate. Well spoken, seemed very knowledgeable, sporting a white beard, but in better shape than my 30 year younger self
by a stretch!
I had to approach and strike up a conversation. Just so happened that the lodge he had been working at had just been purchased by an interest with different plans and it would no longer be a privately operated fishing destination. The timing was perfect. A quick chat and a handshake later and Bob was on the roster for the 2014 season.
He did not disappoint. We quickly came to realize that Bob was an excellent guide. Keenly interested in the success of his guests. Bob often knew of fish in the pursuit of a fly before the person casting it. His boat also had a steady supply of coffee and Baileys, which was popular among guests. Bob brought clients to us that have been with us ever since he came along, and many more that stepped into his boat over the years, returned to do it again, with Bob. Bob has been a steady hand around camp as well. A great guy to get along with, and a jack of all trades in the pre-season, but in particular a great carpenter.
In this, his 70th year, the whole team at PFSL would like to wish Bob a happy retirement. We're looking forward to seeing you back to wet a line, and we're happy to have a 'back up' if we need one. We know the only thing you didn't like about being at the lodge for the summer was being away from the love of your life, Kay. Enjoy these next years together to the fullest, my friend. Congratulations on a work life to be proud of.
