Covid Schmovid - The 2020 season begins!

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Eagle River Report for the start of our 2020 season. Also, HAPPY CANADA DAY!! We love our country and the opportunities it provides us all to work and play freely. It certainly has been a different preseason for us. Covid-19 threw us a curveball and left us unable to host many of our national and international guests. We will certainly miss you all and hopefully see you in 2021. We hope you are all safe as the pandemic runs its course.
We've been at the lodge since June 26th waking her from a winter slumber. Everything weathered well and we've been busy with cleaning, painting, and prepping for our first guests on the 3rd. The river was falling rapidly just before we when we went in, then shot up after heavy rains. It crested on Monday and is now rapidly falling again. We could stand to have a meter or so less water for optimum fishing level, so we're hoping the rains stay away for a while.
That said, the fishing has been decent! Guide, Sonny was the first one to hook up on Sunday evening the 28th. And every day since we have been putting in minimal effort and hooking up. A couple of big salmon in the 34-38" range have been hooked, and several 9-10lbers. Also a few early and small grilse in the mix. We figure if the water continues to fall our first group stands to have some good fishing. That's our wish anyways, and we will do everything we can do and leave the rest up to the river!
We're wishing other lodges the very best as we all operate during Covid-19 and we wish all anglers everywhere tight lines! If you are a resident of NL or are in the Atlantic bubble, we still have some great space available for this year. Get in touch!
