River is shaping up!

After the first half of the season being plagued with high water, it is nice to see some of our best pools forming up again. Kinda like seeing old friends! The 'Bathtub' and 'Boulder Field' are just becoming fishable, and some of our favorite places out on the river have been fishing really well.
The group that departed yesterday had a great 5 day trip. 315 fish hooked, and approximately 10% large. It was a week where rookie, Amin, became 'FishAmin'. And there were several double headers. It was a cold week compared to the week before with a few days of highs reaching only 6-8 deg C. The water level kept falling, and so did the water temp...back down to a chilly 16-17C (62F) which is great!
Fishing slowed considerable yesterday and today. The tides are slack right now and temps rising so no doubt that is factoring in. However, I heard a report from a Sandhill River counting fence employee that July 26th was their best day of the year so far. That usually would be a good indication of a good run of fish to hit Eagle in about a weeks time.
Our current group is a mix of new to us guests, repeat offenders, and a 3 guys that fished with us during our first year as Pratt Falls Salmon Lodge in 2009. Great to see them back and they are enjoying the improvements at the lodge. Especially air conditioning, our custom fishing boats, and incredible team of staff! We hope the fishing treats them well over the next few days.
Stay tuned to the Eagle River Report...pretty soon we'll be into some August fishing fun and we're anticipating good water conditions. With the report yesterday from the Sandhill....well, just stay tuned and we'll see what happens!
