Fishing has not been what we we would typically see on the Eagle this time of year. Don and Larry hooked into 5 fish over the last couple days of their stay, and most of the guests that arrived mid-week have hooked up, but generally the fishing is slow. Yesterday we had a rookie angler land his first fish! That was exciting, and the report from his guide was that he didn't mess around and muscled the fish into the boat in record time!
Jackie and Derrick took a little break from fly fishing the other day and decided to spend the day out in the bay spin casting for sea trout. We had a great time and brought in a lovely catch of sea run brookies for a taster in camp. Delicious fish in prime condition. Derrick landed a real nice 2 1/2 lb trout. Picture of his lovely trout necklace attached. What a laugh we had!
Guides and guests are reporting seeing fresh fish every day, and water levels and temperatures are perfect. We always listen to the local reports of fish in the bay and on the headlands. Yesterday, we received reports of fish striking nets of those taking part in the resident and aboriginal food fisheries on the coast, and this is after nearly a two week lull in the coastal activity. We are hoping that this translates to the river and we see some good runs over the next week. Stay tuned and we will be able to see if there is a direct relationship to what we are hearing about the results in the bay, and what we see here.
