Fishing Slow, Spirits High
Posted 30 July 2016, 10:47 pm NDT
The last few days fishing has been unseasonably slow. We are still seeing a few fish and our departing guests hooked fish every day, and there have been a few hooked by our new guests today, but fishing is certainly slower than usual for this time of year. Our departing guests had good success at White Bear on Thursday, and we have a group going there for a visit tomorrow.

Lots of talk about the grilse now. We are all wondering if they made a run for it when the water was high and we didn't realize how many were going through, or are there more good runs to come, OR are the numbers just way down? Scary thought but only time will tell as we don't have counting facilities on the Eagle.

The river conditions are very good. The river is holding a steady water level with lots of great pools to fish, and temps are in the low to mid 60s. Hopefully the new moon brings with it new fish and the great August fishing that Eagle is capable of.

One thing for sure. Even though the fishing is slow, the departing group had a great time, and chaulk up the slow week totals to, "that's fishing"! The group that arrived yesterday are much the same. One guest said to me this morning, "Yeah, the fishing is a bit slow, but we are hear for the total package, and your food, guides, staff, and the lodge are just wonderful, so this is great!" Well, we are thrilled to hear that and will continue to always do our best to ensure a great time whether there's lots of fish, slow fish, or no fish!! Stay tuned to the report and hopefully in the coming days the action picks up.
