A great week ends, and a fresh group begins
Posted 15 July 2016, 6:49 pm NDT
Our departing group had a good week of fishing. It started slow with lots of fish sightings, and ended with a couple of good days. Our camp hooked a little over 200 atlantic salmon this week, and about 30% of those were large salmon. The group departing are 'repeat offenders' to the Eagle River and our lodge. Some of them for decades and the Eagle River along with the best service we can offer keeps guests like them coming back year after year.
Our new guests arrived today and so far, have been having a great day. Most guests have had hookups in their afternoon session. One guest in particular remarked that he has already seen more fish this afternoon than he did his last three years fishing combined. We're not sure if it's that great here, or just that he's been skunked for a few years??! :)
The river level is about perfect for angling right now. The water is still falling quite steadily, and temps are around 64-65F. The 'bathtub' is now fishable and our friends at Eagle Salmon Club were the first to fish it this season, just this morning. Traffic on the river is high right now as this is the time of year that most locals do some angling while they also take part in the resident food fisheries on the coast. This usually lasts for a week to 10 days in mid July and soon we will again enjoy 'free range' on the lower eagle. That is one of the perks of fishing in August. Local fishing is over, and great catch rates continue.
