Mic Check...Mic Check..1...2...HELLOOOO 2016 ANGLING SEASON!!

Welcome back the the Eagle River Report for the 2016 season! We have been maintaining our blog since 2010, and find that not only do we enjoy doing it, but the feedback from our guests and readers has been nothing but positive.
We have been at the camp since June 3rd, and have been very busy making improvements to the lodge and getting ready to start the 2016 season. The weather has been a series of extremes, a solid week of rain and near freezing temps at night the week before last, to what has been a scorcher these past few days. The river is still very high, but we are starting to see some fishable places along the sides of the river. Places that you normally wouldn't fish when the water is lower, but when Eagle is dumping 650 cubic meters per second, like it is right now, you improvise and fish the shorelines and cliff edges, and once the run of big fish is underway these places really produce! Spots like McCavitty's Point is known to produce salmon right out from the edge of the alders on high water like this. And it won't be long before one of our favorite high water pools, Backriver, is fishable.
So, the big question. What do we think is in store for the start of the season? Well, we have been looking at all of the factors that we think impact the arrival of salmon to our rivers. Sea pack ice, weather, and reports from around the province. all things seem to be aligning for a run of large fish any day, and tonight, Dwight seen a nice stack of salmon sitting below the gorge on his sonar, proving that they are moving in on this high water, right under our noses. We will begin throwing flies at them tomorrow to test the waters and will let you all know how that goes. But we have heard reports of salmon being sighted in Black Tickle, and Rigolet, as well as on our neighbor to the south, the Sandhill River. That means fishing action will begin to pick up here. We are hoping that during this week we will have some stories and hopefully pictures of some monster large fish to show you.
So, stay tuned! Because for the next 9-10 weeks we will be bringing you our news, some great stories, pictures, and river conditions. And if you are interested in fishing with us, or can recommend a friend, we always want to hear from you and help you plan a successful, time-of-your-life kinda trip to our slice of salmon fishing heaven. Check out our availability page, clear your calendar, and go to our 'book now' page to get started!! Wherever you are fishing, have fun, respect the resource, and tight lines!
