Changeover Day, a great week of big fish...full moon tomorrow.

We bid farewell to a a wonderful group of guests today. It was a great mix of people, over half of them repeat guests and from Norway, the US, Western Canada, and NL. And it was a solid week of fishing with the most big fish our lodge has ever seen. It was a week filled with stories of fish that guides couldn't get their hands around to tail, and leaders busted. Guides reported as many as 48 fish hooked in one boat for the week with two guests, and when you are dealing with about 80% large fish, we are happy with those numbers! All guides remarked that this has been the most 18-22lb salmon they have ever seen.
The river is rising and the water temp is hovering around 60-62 degrees F. Great conditions for the salmon's journey, but not good conditions for getting them to hold in pools and take fly. The fish are plentiful but they are moving fast and can be regularly seen porpoising and jumping through pools not stopping long enough to be tantalized by a fly.
We welcome a group of repeat guests back to the lodge this week. They started fishing this afternoon and even with the rising water had some great success. A double header on the slick was a nice treat to start the week. two guests in a boat with a fish on at the same time! Makes for some excitement! This is an experienced group, and with the full moon tomorrow, we are expecting a great week of fishing ahead. Stay tuned!
