The numbers continue to get better...and the fish bigger!

We wouldn't go so far as to say that the salmon are pouring in, at least not by Eagle standards. But the fishing is getting very good. Our camp hooked 28 fish today, of which only 4 were grilse. But there is still two hours of fishing remaining this evening.

Guides report that most are in the 13-15 lb range, but we have been hooking some leviathans! Guide, Bob Goulding, and his guests reported hooking a monster today in Pratts that could not be held back. They got three 'slumbering' jumps out of it in the 15 minute play but the third jump the salmon landed pointing downriver in white water and the 15lb test leader was no match when they tried to keep it back from going on down Pratts. Bob says it is the biggest salmon he has ever seen, and they estimate it 25-27lbs, and both Bob and his guest have a lot of years as guide and angler.

These pics are of a fiesty 14-15lber hooked by Nelson's guest, Craig Duff, today. And another brute size of a fish also hooked by Craig. If you look closely you can see the speckles of water where the salmon launched out of the water and he is just about to land backwards when the photo was captured. Unbelievable that a salmon with this girth would jump like that. They are wild when so fresh out of the ocean as they are here on the Lower Eagle. Nelson had his camera ready and captured some incredible moments!

It is raining here most of the evening and long range forecasts call for showers throughout. It doesn't look like enough to cause any rise in the river but it might slow the falling water. The river is an excellent fishing level right now. She dropped over three feet since last week!
