The big fish action is getting good
Posted 03 July 2014, 6:40 am NDT
It is incredible how a few high tides can change things here on the Lower Eagle. It seems the last few rising tides have brought in schools of large fish, and yesterday evening the discussion in the main lodge after dinner was a little more than enthusiastic!

We had several large fish hooked and landed and released yesterday. We had a 95cm hen successfully landed, and estimated at 22-24lbs.

Another guest seen a large fish in the 18-20lb range in Dabbling Pool. He tied on a number 2 blue charm and let it drift back to the salmon with no natural swing at all, and in his words, "HE f*&^%$g TOOK IT!!". The story from himself and his witnesses was very entertaining. Because it was a big fish, and the dabbling pool which is hard to hold a big fish, he had tied on a 20lb leader! And not once but twice the large salmon ran out over the lip into white water and he forced it back in the pool. For anybody who knows the pool, you can imagine the excitement!

There are a lot of fish in the river now, but it seems they are not holding long and taking flies really well. The river is at a good level with lots of pools and there has been a lot of rain inland and even though the river continued to fall out here, we suspect that because the river is still at a good level and the fish sensed the fresh rain fall that they are continuing to move up river.

Today is the last day for this group. Hopefully more stories and pictures to share this evening!
