I (Dwight) came into the river this morning with a load of supplies for the camp, and as I made my way up river I could tell that things were going very well at camp. All the guests were smiling and waving as I drove past and it was just obvious that everybody was having a great time. My thoughts were confirmed when I arrived at the lodge. It didn't take long for the stories to start pouring in and at the lunch table everybody was buzzing about the great week we have been having.
Our guests are hooking solid numbers of fish, and we are seeing a high percentage of large fish. From the reports I'm getting back from guides and guests somewhere in the vicinity of 45-50% large fish the past few days.
The report that Terry posted yesterday was indeed an exciting time! The anglers he was speaking about are the youngest in camp this week and they are with our rookie guide, Christopher Angell. They showed me a catch and release video of Christopher handling the 36" salmon. I was impressed to say the least. He did a perfect job of returning the large fish to continue it's journey upstream.
Let's talk river conditions for a minute. To put it in a nutshell, I couldn't be happier with the river conditions. The water is cool ranging from the low to mid 60's, and the water level is excellent for most pools. The bathtub is not fishable yet, but with the river dropping 2-3 inches a day it won't be long now. The river is still well over 2 meters at the measuring station above the falls. A great level and all we will need is a little bit of rain inland throughout July and August and Eagle should have a phenomenal year. The 7 day forecast is calling for some partly sunny days, possible showers but relatively cool temps. Sounds good to me!
The photo above was the end result of the report Terry made yesterday about the adventures in the rock pile which he watched from the deck of the lodge.
